Lithium Polymer (Li-Po) Battery Safety Guidelines
- Always use a charger specially designed for Lithium Polymer batteries.
- Always charge batteries in a fire proof container. DO NOT charge batteries on wood, cloth, carpet, in your model or on other flammable or combustible materials.
- Never leave batteries unattended while charging.
- If a battery is deformed, swollen or appears damaged. DO NOT CHARGE. Follow the disposal instructions below to properly and safely dispose of the battery.
- If you have an accident with your model, if the battery swells or if the battery exceeds the temperature guidelines, follow these safety steps:
- Immediately remove the battery pack from your model or charger.
- Place the battery in a nonflammable, well ventilated area.
- Observe the battery for 30 minutes from a safe distance.
- After 30 minutes. If the battery pack appears stable, is not swollen and does not show any signs of damage, return the battery pack to normal, but use with caution.
- If a battery wire is exposed, follow the disposal instructions below to properly and safely dispose of the battery.
- Store batteries in a cool, dry place between 0-26C.
- DO NOT assemble unmatched or dissimilar Li-Po Cells.
- DO NOT disassemble any Li-Po battery.
- Store battery packs out of the reach of children and pets.
Lithium Polymer (Li-Po) Charging Instructions
- Most lithium polymer batteries feature a separate balancing plug that isolates each cell in the pack and charges it independently.
- Charge each battery pack individually. Never charge battery packs in series.
- Always check to make sure that your charger settings match those listed on the battery pack level.
- Make sure the battery connections are in the correct polarity.
- Always check battery pack voltage before charging. DO NOT discharge Li-Po cells below 3.0V per cell. Unless the battery is to be disposed off.
- DO NOT charge at over 1C current.
- DO NOT peak charge to more than 4.2V per cell.
- Battery temperate is critical:
- Charge temp range: 0-43C
- Discharge temp range: 0-60
- Storage temp range: 0-26C
Lithium Polymer (Li-Po) Discharging Instructions
Never discharge a Li-Po battery pack at more than the recommended discharge rate.
Lithium Polymer (Li-Po) Battery Disposal Iinstructions
- Discharge the battery pack to 2.5V per cell.
- Fill a bucket with enough water to submerge the battery pack completely.
- Add salt to the water until no more salt will dissolve; the water is not saturated with salt.
- Place the battery pack in the bucket and leave submerged in the salt water solution for 24 hours.
- Remove the battery pack from the salt water and test the voltage, make sure the battery pack is dry before testing.
- If the voltage does not reach 0.0V, re-submerge and re-test until the voltage reaches 0.0V.
- Once the battery pack has been discharged to 0.0V, it is safe to dispose.
Warning
Charging and discharging batteries has the potential for catching fire, causing serious injury to persons and property. The user of any batteries purchase from or through DG-RC eStores agree to accept responsibility for all such risks as stated in the terms of this site. DG-RC eStores cannot control the use, application, charging or installation of Li-Po batteries and shall not be held responsible for any accident, injury to persons or damage to property resulting from the use of any batteries.
